Hujber János emlékére (1922-2006)

Vers az Unokámnak.

Itt a tavasz.

Zöld a mező, rügy fakad az ágon,

Dalos madár énekel most a zöldelő fákon.

Rózsabimbó illatozik, minden rózsa ágon,

Enyhe szellő susog hallkan, csendes éjszakákon.

Ezer csillag fent az égen, sok száz virág lent a réten,

A Boldogság nékem.

Ha rám mosolyog a két szemed, én is tavaszt érzek.

Mosolygásod el ne hagyjon.

Soha amíg élek.

Sok sok szeretettel.

Csókol nagyapád.

2006/11/04 - End of Racing Season 2006

There has been a long time since my last update. Main reason for this was my tight schedule, with too much work, races, family, etc - some call the symptom "lazyness" - never heard that word before :) Anyway, racing season has ended by 22nd of October, and there are so many things going around the car, I don't really now where to start with the update.

In our category, A5, my friend Falco finished first place with the GMC Syclone, with a total of 125 points.

Me finished second place, with 91 points, which I was very pleased with.

Third place was dead heat between Kohári Zoli's Brabus S600 and Karkus Tomi's stroker Audi quattro, both totaling with 80 points. Karkus' Audi joined the battle at the middle of the season, took many wins and records, but unfortunately struggled with transmission problems later on.

More updates on the car are to come soon, there are a LOT :)

2006/07/12 - MSD Two Step Launch Control / Rev Limiter

This mod is the newest addition to my range of weapons in the hunt for traction. The MSD Two Step can select two separate rpm limits, one for global rpm, and one for launch control. The idea behind that is to improve the car's launches an make them more consistent.

It works basically like this: I have a TDC clutch microswitch on the clutch pedal lever, which when depressed, activates the launch rpm limit, which is set at 3200 rpm for the time being. This means I can go wide open throttle at the staging line waiting for the green light, and the revs would not go over 3200. As soon as the clutch is disengaged, the second, global rev limit is engaged, which is set at the regular 6800 rpm. I also wired the nitrous activation switch to this circuit, so it won't hit until the clutch is released. As simple as it can get :) It should be some fun to find the optimum rev limit for max traction, let's see what she'll do this weekend on Rabaring.

2006/06/30 -195.519 km/h - category speed record!

Last weekend we had a very nice race at Tököl airport, both with good and bad outcomings.
I decided to use the ColdFusion wet nitrous kit with the 100 hp setting, and prayed that the stock shortblock would hold up to the spray. After some puzzling with the fuel jet sizes, I found the right combination, which gave me 12.5 AFR throughout the rpm band. A note here: with the stock fuel jet size, my AFR was a little bit on the lean side - i.e. 13.2 AFR, eeeek! I freaked out.

I went for 11's but few things kept me from breaking into that magical time zone. The first run had rich jettings and slow shifts, but with a good launch; 12.068 @ 192.7 km/h, 2.02 60' feet. The second run was with the right jettings, good shifts, but horrible launch. No 11's, but I managed to run a category trap speed record of 195.519 km/h (121.5 mph), which was formerly set up by Falco's GMC Syclone (194.99 km/h). I was more than happy, and knew the car had 11's in it easily, with a reasonable launch, so I decided to go for it in the finals, and let the car alone so it will hold up.

Then in the finals, my nitrous bottle started leaking at the nut very badly, I was very upset, so I had no chance against Karkus Tomi's Audi Quattro. He ran a 11.5 against me, so this time, I finished 2nd.

Tip of the day: Always carry a 32mm size wrench in your damn trunk, if you are serious with nitrous. Lesson learned, period.

2006/06/19 - Update

Phew, long time no update, been kinda busy.

There were a couple of races since my last race report, which were all horrible for me. In a nutshell - rain, rain and more rain. Anyway, with the PLX WBO2 below, I could tune the T/A to the desired 13.0-13.2 AFR across the powerband, this netted me a little more mph in the 1/4, however, I am really struggling with traction lately. My best as today is 12.55 with an 2.0 sixty time, and now I'm pulling 2.3's which suxx mega times. That said, barely in the 12's now...

Besides that, the timing equipment hasn't been working flawlessly lately, no timeslips, slow system, etc... I hope it gets worked out pretty soon. Until then, I think I just go and practice launching.

2006/05/01 - Race report: Tököl Airport, 2006.04.16

What a blow! I arrived at the track a bit late, set the car up for the runs (this includes lowering the air pressure in the M/T ET Street Radials to 15 psi and setting the QA1 shocks to 1-1 on the front and to 3-4 on the back) and went for it quickly, because it was about to rain. I underestimated Tököl's sticky concrete, so my 4000 rpm launch resulted in a massive bog and a 1.97 sixty feet time, where the 1/4 ET was 12.607@ 111.6. This was nice, I thought so first, but then rain came down instatly, and it washed the whole event away.

I was going for a new best, I guess i'll have to way untill the next event.

2006/04/11 - Race report: Rabaring, 2006.04.08

This was my first race this year, had some nice weather and some results, too. Achieved a personal best of 12.55@112 mph in the 1/4m, 8.09@89 mph in the 1/8m. Traction was an issue for me, I could never 60' the car under 2.01, what a waste!

Click the pic below to see the timeslip for this run.

I made a total of three qualification runs, click here for the timeslips.

Anyway, I made it to the eleminations with 3rd best time, and I won against Zsolt Józsa's green C5 (12.3@114), then lost against Falco's Sy in the finals (11.45@121).

It was a nice race, I am looking forward to the next event, which will be held at Tököl Airport this weekend.

2006/04/07 - Canton oil pan

The Canton road race oil pan has arrived, big thanks to Nick at TREperformance. Looks like a nice piece of quality work...

In the meantime I'm preparing for tomorrow, for the first race in this season, held at the Rabaring. I'll be competing in the A5 category, which is an "anything goes" class, with no restrictions above 5000ccm. Should be fun anyways, I hope we'll have some nice weather tomorrow! Stay tuned for updates!

2006/04/01 - 357 progress

Finished the ring filing procedure on the new shortblock, thanks goes to Falco for the ring filer! The block still needs to be decked, which will be done this month.

In the meantime, I have ordered some random stuff for this upcoming engine; bolts and fasteners, gaskets, main studs, etc and a Canton Road Race oil pan (#242-T), which should arrive during the next week.

2006/03/23 - update

Phew, long time no update! Weather starts to clear up now at this time of the year, so it's time to race again.

An update on what happened in the meantime:
The below mentioned rotating assembly has arrived in february, thanks again to Clint @ cnc-motorsports.com! I brought the spare block to the machine shop, they bored and honed the block, setting the 4032 alloy forged pistons to .0040" (0.1mm) clearence.

Regarding piston rings - I decided to follow the "new school" theory, which means larger 2nd compression ring gaps. I'm shooting for 0.024" top and 0.026" 2nd ring gaps, which I'd like to finalize on the weekend.

2005/12/08 - rotating assembly

Finally made up my mind for next year's setup.
There was a clearance special on Eagle Competition rotating assemblies, so I jumped in for the very last kits, which consists of the following:

  • Eagle 4340 Non-Twist Forged Steel Crankshaft (3.500" Stroke - 1pc Seal)
  • Eagle 3-D 4340 Forged Steel H Beam Connecting Rods (5.700" Bushed)
  • SRP forged aluminum -5cc Flat Top pistons,& piston pins (4.030" Bore)
  • Premium plasma moly file fit piston ring set
  • Clevite 77 Race H Series Rod and Main Bearings - MS909H & CB663H
  • Fully internally balanced rotating assembly

With a slightly larger stroke and .030 over, gives me a 357 cubic inch engine, with around 11:5 compression.
I will bulid this engine for nitrous (ab)use, and throw on the ColdFusion wet kit, which supports up to 200hp shots.
The kit should arrive in February, 2006. Should be fun next year, but we'll see!

2005/11/22 - videos!

First snow came down today here in Budapest, along with some severe freezes - I guess it's time to put the T/A in storage for the winter. I have to do some pre-storage maintanance works before she goes to sleep.

In the meantime, I've uploaded some movie clips to the video gallery and the Firefox bugs were taken care of, too. (Thanks Zola!)

2005/11/15 - hungryta.com is online at last!

The new website is up and running! I've always had the idea of going online, but I actually hadn't got any time for the works. So I decided to build this page slowly, from time to time, as my spare time allowed it.

The page is still in the debugging phase, but the main features, links, and the gallery should be running flawlessly.

If you find any bugs, errors or misspells, please report it to: hungryta@hungryta.com
